Video: Small Hauls from the Last 2 Weeks, Random Ramblings, & My First High Quality YouTube Vid! Yay!

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

I finally figured out what specs to use and how to save my file so that I can make my videos on YouTube viewable in High Quality! YAY! Haha. :) It's my first HD YouTube video. Hahahaha! Okay, believe it or not, my dorky butt is REALLY stoked about the fact that I know how to make High Quality YouTube vids now. I was actually getting irritated by how crappy my vids on YouTube were looking, but now the problem has been solved. *grins huge cheesy smile*

Oh, and if you guys noticed I only actually bought ONE thing, which was the "Painterly" paint pot. The "Rubenesque" paint pot was an exchange item and the Dentaburst Freshening Teeth Cleaners are something I received to review. :) Hehe. :P Okay, so that's all. :) So do you guys notice the quality difference between this video and the video in my previous entry? :)

One more thing, I kinda got tongue tied and fobbed out sorta-ish on one part of my vid. It's the part where I'm saying something like, "I'm more fond of paint pots because I like that they're in ponts (i meant POTS)." hahahaha. pardon that... after all, I am filipino... granted I grew up here in the US... it's in my blood so it has a tendency to kick in sometimes at the most random moments. The funny thing is, is that I don't even know how to speak Tagalog! LOL. *scratches head*

Video: Which Makeup Brushes I Use The Most

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Hi everyone! :)

Someone requested that I list what brushes I use the most, so I did small video showcasing my most frequently used brushes. :)

I've also listed the brushes that are shown in the video down below, just in case you can't catch the name of some of them in the video. :P I've also listed what I use each brush for in parenthesis beside each brushes name. Hope this helps!

Brushes In The Video (listed in the same order as they're shown in the video)
FACE BRUSHES:
- Silk Naturals Flat Top Brush (I use this with my mineral foundation)
- Ulta Highlighting Brush (I use this to apply my mineral foundation WET)
- Essence of Beauty Powder/Blush Brush (I use this for contouring & sometimes blush)
- Silk Naturals Fiber Optic Blush Brush (I use this for blush)
- Lumiere Cosmetics Detail Concealer Brush (I use this to conceal blemishes)
- Lumiere Cosmetics Ultimate Concealer Brush (I use this to conceal my under eye area)
- Lumiere Cosmetics Baby Buki (I use this for concealing & foundation application on the under eye area)
- Lumiere Cosmetics Kabuki (I use this for my powder primers, finishing powders, and other all over face powders besides foundation. I also use this brush to blend my contour & blush colors out if they're too harsh)

EYE BRUSHES:
- Studio Tools Concealer Brush (I use this with my pigments. I use it to lay down my pigments wet and/or dry [i.e. mineral pigments like fyrinnae, simply naturals, the she space, MAC pigments, NYX pigments, etc.])
- Sonia Kashuk Eyeshadow Brush (I use this to lay down pressed eyeshadow [i.e. MAC eyeshadows, NYX, Milani, etc.])
- Urban Apothecary Crease Brush (I use this as a crease brush and a contour brush for the outer corner of my upper eye lid)
- Sonia Kashuk Small Pointed Blending Brush (I use this to highlight my inner v and apply eyeshadow on my lower lash line)
- Essence of Beauty Eyeshadow Brush (It looks like an angled fluff brush. I use this for the highlighter under my brows)
- Sonia Kashuk Concealer Brush (I use this for my eyeshadow bases [i.e. l'oreal HIP paints & MAC Paint Pots])
- jW Cosmetics Camouflage Angle Detailer (I use this for gel liner)
- Sonia Kashuk Crease Brush (I use this for blending because it's far to large to be a crease brush, for me at least. LOL.)

Video Tutorial: How I Apply My Ly-Na Pearl Face Cream

Here's a quick video of how I apply my Ly-Na Pearl Face Cream. A couple of you requested it, so I hope this helps.

I don't apply as much as Anne does because I got use to applying it this way before she posted her tutorial. Ha. :P This is what's worked for me, so now you guys have two different ways of applying it! :D How you choose to apply it is solely up to you. Enjoy. :)

CBox Deleting Messages By Itself

Okay, so my CBox is acting funky right now and I have no idea why. There have been several questions asked in my CBox along with my answers and they've all been erased! I don't know why and I'm not sure if the people who asked questions got to see my answer before it was deleted. :( Bah.

So if you were one of the people who asked a question in my CBox and it's not there anymore, feel free to re-ask your question in this entry and don't forget to enter your email address in the form where it says email address. Don't worry, your email address is only visible to me. I would appreciate if you did this just so I can email you the answer and it doesn't get lost somewhere in cyberspace. :P If you don't want to enter your email address that's fine, I will answer your questions in the comment section of this blog entry.

Sorry again for the inconvenience. I don't know why CBox if acting all funky today? o_0

Gloves In A Bottle Shielding Lotion

Price: $17.93 if purchased through the website(this includes shipping & everything except tax. only Californians get charged tax.) and prices may vary in store.
Where You Can Buy This Product: glovesinabottle.com or use the store locator on the website to find a store near you that carries it.
Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

Product Information:
The information about this product is long and in depth so I've decided to link the different pages of information for those of you who are interested.

1.) What is a shielding lotion
2.) How it works
3.) Ingredients List

My General Overview: I was given this to test out and review. I initially was hoping it was as good as the Skin MD Shielding Lotion because I really do love using that lotion as a moisturizer/primer on the days that I wear makeup. If you can recall that review, you'll remember that my one quarrel was the price. I was interested in reviewing this shielding lotion because the price for this shielding lotion was cheaper and it came with more product!

After using this product for a few weeks (anywhere from 2-3 weeks) on and off I've come to the conclusion that I'm not too crazy about this specific shielding lotion as a face lotion. After using it for a few days I began to breakout, so I stopped using it and let my skin heal. I tried using on my face again after I cleared up my breakout and I broke out again upon retesting this. I finally came to the conclusion that this shielding lotion does NOT work well on my face at all. My guess is the silicones in this product. My skin cannot stand silicones, especially in high dosages or when used frequently. It will tolerate silicones in lower dosage or when used once in a while. The Skin MD Lotion had silicones listed as the 4th in the ingredients list while this lotion has silicones listed as second in the ingredients list. The ingredients on ingredients lists are organized in order from the highest concentrated ingredient in the product to the lowest concentrated ingredient in the product. So I'm guessing my skin got along with Skin MD's Lotion better because the silicones were listed lower on the ingredients list.

Texture wise this lotion has a creamy consistency. This lotion definitely has a lotion texture, but it's more so creamy than liquidy. You only need to use a tiny amount of product at a time.

Now when I apply this lotion on my face it doesn't leave that smooth protective feeling that the Skin MD one did. I honestly don't like the texture of this shielding lotion as much as Skin MD's. I didn't feel wowed by this product at all, which is a shame because I really wanted to like this. It doesn't leave an oily residue behind or anything but I guess I expect more from this product because the Skin MD Shielding Lotion definitely helped me set some standards on what to expect from a shielding lotion.

I started using this as a hand lotion instead and it does an okay job at that. It prevented the skin on my hands from being dry but it didn't make them feel silky soft or anything like that. I guess someone who is a CONSTANT hand washer and suffers from chapped or dry hands would appreciate this shielding lotion since those are the people that do need a REALLY good shielding lotion for their hands. But I don't really need a great lotion for my hands, so again it didn't really wow me.

PROS: It's cheaper than Skin MD's Shielding Lotion. It makes a decent hand lotion but is kinda pricey for people who don't have horribly chapped/dry hands.

CONS: It broke me out because of my sensitivity to silicones. It's a little pricey, even for being a hand lotion. Nothing about this product honestly wowed me or made me feel like I wanted to repurchase it. I'm not fond of how it leaves your skin feeling, and I honestly don't feel this would work good as a primer or anything like that. It's just an okay product that's a tad overpriced for what it does, at least in my opinion. If it worked as well as the Skin MD Shielding Lotion I would definitely pick this one over the Skin MD one since this one cost a little less, but that didn't turn out to be the case.

You'll Like This Product If:
- You work at a job that requires CONSTANT hand washing which causes chapped or dried hands (i.e. Nurses), therefore you need a good shielding lotion to PREVENT moisture loss in your skin
- You have dry/damaged skin and want a shielding lotion that's a little more budget friendly than the Skin MD Shielding Lotion
- You are a fan of shielding lotions

You Won't Like This Product If:
- You don't need a shielding lotion for your hands because a regular lotion gets the job done just fine
- You are sensitive to silicones like me (anyone who couldn't use monistat as a primer probably won't like this for use on their face)
- You don't see the point in a shielding lotion
- You already have the Skin MD Shielding Lotion and are happy with it

Would I Repurchase This Product? No, I wouldn't. Like I said I'm not someone who suffers from chapped or extremely dry skin so regular lotion will do fine on my body and hands. If it worked out for my face like the Skin MD one, yes, but since it didn't workout for my face at all... I would not purchase this product.

Overall, I did notice a HUGE difference between the two lotions. I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" does apply in this scenario. The Skin MD Shielding Lotion does cost more but I prefer it COMPLTELY over the Gloves In A Bottle Shielding Lotion. The textures are different, the way your skin feels after being applied and absorbed is different, and I just really prefer the Skin MD Shielding Lotion overall.

Neutral/Minimal FOTD's & Ly-Na Pearl Cream Answers

So I've been doing either really minimal makeup or neutral makeup lately and I decided to post a few looks I've done. Like I said, they're either really minimal or neutral so there's nothing crazy or colorful about these looks. LOL. Hopefully you guys still enjoy the looks though.

Here's a look I did sometime before the cruise. As you can see my "Up The Amp" lipstick is definitely one of my favorite lipsticks. I love how I can play it up or down easily, I guess I'm lucky that it goes with my skintone. I'm thinking of swapping my "Snob" lipstick on the Bloggers Swap since I don't think I'll be able to use it till winter. Hahaha.

What I Used
Face:
Buff'd Concealing Formula Foundation in "Buff"
Everyday Minerals Concealer in "Intensive Medium"

Eyes:
Physican's Formula Gentle Cover Cream Concealer in "Yellow"
Cover Girl's Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara in "Very Black"

Lips:
Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve
MAC Lipstick in "Up The Amp"

Cheeks:
MAC Powder Blush in "Harmony" (contour in cheek hollows)
MAC Powder Blush in "Dollymix" (apples of cheeks)

I did this look a couple of days after I got back from my cruise hence my crappy skin. I didn't take care of my skin AT ALL on that cruise and it seriously made me pay. :( Wah. So excuse the crappy skin. Haha. Anyway, I did this one because I noticed that I've been neglecting my earth tone colors for the past few months and I have quite a few of them! :P So I was just playing around with earth tone colors in this look.

What I Used
Face:
Buff'd Original Formula Foundation in "Buff"
Everyday Minerals Concealer in "Intensive Medium"

Eyes:
Physician's Formula Gentle Cover Cream Concealer in "Yellow"
NYX Single Eyeshadow in "Yellow Marigold" (inner half of upper eyelid)
Milani Single Eyeshadow in "Flare" (outer half of upper eye lid and outer 2/3 of lower lash line)
MAC Eyeshadow in "Carbon" (on outer 2/3 of outer v)
Milani Single Eyeshadow in "Almondine" (highlight under brow)
NYX Single Eyeshadow in "Geisha" (in inner v as tear duct highlight)
Rimmel Soft Kohl Pencil in "Black" (smudged on upper lash line and on waterline)
MAC Plushlash Mascara in "Plushblack" (on upper lashes)

Cheeks:
MAC Powder Blush in "Harmony" (as contour in hollows of cheeks)
MAC Powder Blush in "Melba" (on apples of cheeks)

Lips:
Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve
MAC Lipstick in "High Tea"

This FOTD was done this Saturday. I'm in the process of rehabilitating my skin from when I neglected it during the cruise, so it's starting to look a little better. Ha. :) But this FOTD was very neutral/semi-natural because I went to the beach earlier in the day and no one's going to to go the beach wearing smokey eyes or bright red lipstick. Haha. Well, at least I wouldn't and I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't... so yeah. LOL.

What I Used
Face:
Buff'd Concealing Formula Foundation in "Buff"
Everyday Minerals Concealer in "Intensive Medium"

Eyes:
Physician's Formula Gentle Cream Concealer in "Yellow"
Everyday Minerals Concealer in "Sunlight"
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Paint Pot in "Rubenesque"
The She Space's Pigment in "Necessary Morality" (foiled on top of "Rubenesque")
Milani Single Eyeshadow in "Almondine" (highlight under brow)
NYX Single Eyeshadow in "Geisha" (highlight in inner v of eye)
MAC Eyeshadow in "Carbon" (on outer 2/3 of lower lash line)
Indelible Gel Liner in "Blackout" (on upper lash line)
Cover Girl Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara in "Very Black" (on upper & lower lashes)

Cheeks:
MAC Powder Blush in "Harmony" (as contour for cheeks)
MAC Powder Blush in "Melba" (on apples of cheeks)

Lips:
Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve
NYX Lipliner Pencil in "Mauve"
MAC Lipstick in "Blankety"
MAC Lipstick in "High Tea"
NYX Lipgloss in "Natural"

So that's it. :P Hope this was at least mildly entertaining. :P Some of you color addicts might find it a little boring while some of you neutral wearers might actually like this post. I don't know. Haha. Anyway, my next post will be a review of the Gloves In A Bottle Shielding Lotion.

Oh, and just in case someone asks (because I always contour my face now & hardly ever did it before. LOL.) here is a video tutorial I did on contouring. I did this a while ago... like when I first started this blog late last Winter. Anywho, here's the tutorial!

Ly-Na Pearl Cream Questions Answered:
Q.) wow that's a great reviews : ) glad to hear it works for you!!! for me, idk, i'm not 100% confident to put something with 'perfume' on my face since I'm very acne-prone =[

A.) I have combo oily acne prone skin too, and it's actually helped improve my skin instead of worsen it. Then again, what may work for me may not work for you & vice versa. But, this cream is very inexpensive, especially if you can find it an Asian Market near you. :) So if you can find it somewhere, I think it's definitely worth a shot, if you're curious to try it.

Q.) For under $3, it sounds amazing!! Do you think you could use it as a spot treatment?? I have some scars I'd like to fade and I've tried several OTC ones, but I haven't seen much results.

A.) I haven't tried using it as a spot treatment but I definitely think you could use it as a spot treatment if you wanted to. I honestly don't see why it wouldn't work the same way. Just remember that it does take time to see results, so be patient with the product. I've been using mine for about 1 month to a month and a half just for reference. So I guess after about 1 month and a half you should notice a difference. :)

Q.)This is one of the best reviews! I love how detailed you are, it's very helpful. I've been holding off trying out pearl cream, even though I have Top gel. I wonder if I need to get Lyna Cream or just use up Top gel first.

A.) Personally if it were me, I would use up the Top Gel first and if you're still curious about the Ly-Na Cream after you use up your top gel, try it out. :)

Q.)wow! another lyna pearl user. i'm more than sold. i'll definitely grab one soon. btw, could we possibly use toner with lyna? i use toner after washing. how do we know we have properly cleansed our face? hehe! can you share yours so we can compare? thanks!!

A.)Yes! You can definitely use this with a toner. I use a toner in my skin care regimen and they work perfectly fine together. You know you've properly cleansed your face usually when you apply your toner. I use a cotton ball to apply my toner and after you've applied toner to your whole face look at your cotton ball. If you see dirt on your cotton ball grab another one and apply more toner on your whole face. Check the cotton ball after your done again to see if there is any dirt on the cotton ball. Continue to do this until you see NOTHING on your cotton ball after using it to apply your toner. Then you know for sure that your face is completely clear of dirt and residue. The way I apply my cream is slightly different from Anne's. I apply my toner and make sure I get rid of all traces of residue and dirt. After that I let my toner DRY on my skin. I then spritz my face with water GENEROUSLY (i'm talking soaking wet). After that I immediately apply my Garden of Wisdom Honeycomb HA Serum and spread it evenly on my whole face. If my face isn't as saturated with water after I apply my HA serum, I respritz. After that I swipe two fingers into my Ly-Na Cream and swipe swatches of it on my face. I swipe two swatches of the cream on my forehead on opposite sides. I then re-dip/swipe my finger in the cream and apply one swatch of cream on each cheek. I then re-dip/swipe my finger on last time into the cream and apply three swatches down the middle of my face. One swatch on the bridge of my nose, another swatch above my upper lip, and the last swatch on my chin. I then massage all the cream into my face making sure that I spread it out evenly across my face. Once I feel like it's been spread out evenly, I'm done. :) I hope this helps. If you're still not sure what I mean, please let me know and I'll do a quick video tutorial on how I apply my Ly-Na Cream.

Q.) Great review sis! Glad it's working for you. Does suck about the sensitivity though. I'm just wondering, buy do you think that your face could be getting lighter as a result of you applying it to your whole face rather than a spot treatment? Do you think it would still be effective as a spot treatment as well? Just curious

A.) Yes, my face is a tad lighter and it's definitely because I've been using the face cream all over instead of as a spot treatment. But I do this on purpose. I do this on purpose because I've noticed a HUGE improvement in my skin once I started using this as my nighttime face cream. If I used it as a spot treatment it probably would fade my old acne scars BUT the rest of my face wouldn't receive the other benefits and pros that come with this cream. Ever since I started using this cream all over my face I've minimized the amount of breakouts I get, I get ZERO cystic pimples, and my skin texture has smoothed/evened out. So I don't use this cream only because of it's scar lighting attributes but because it also REALLY REALLY helps tame/calm my acne prone skin. :) But if someone only wanted to use it as a spot treatment to fade scars, they definitely could do that instead of using it on their whole face and I'm pretty sure it would work just as good if you chose the spot treatment method over the whole face method.

Q.) Hi.. I'm just wondering how do you apply the cream unto your face? Do you also use toner to dilute it? If yes, which toner are you using? I've tried this cream for one week now, but it gave me the opposite result. I had new pimples came on the 3rd day even though I applied it lightly. But, I was on my monthly period range(I got my period on the 6th day), so that might also be the reason for my break out. Thanks.

A.) Hello. :) I don't use toner to dilute it, just regular water. I do use a toner in my skin care regimen though. I use CVS alcohol free toner but it's pretty much the SAME EXACT toner as Neutrogena's alcohol free toner because I compared the two ingredients side by side in the store and there was NOT one difference in ingredients or ingredients dominance between the two. The only difference is that the CVS one is cheaper. ;) Ha. I've listed how I apply the cream up above under the question/answer #4. :) Oh and the reaction you are having the cream may be purging. Also anytime I apply ANYTHING to my face I wash my hands right after I touch something whether it be after opening up the cream container or anything at all. I just make sure to wash my hands RIGHT before I pick up or apply any product to my face and I do this in between EVERY product I use because I noticed I have to open containers and what not in between different steps of my routine. I'm very anal about this because I have acne prone skin and I noticed that ever since I started doing this, it's made a difference. :)

Q.) i reallly want to try the ly-na cream but i dont want my face to get all light cuz its already a few shades lighter than my body to begin with

A.) If you're afraid of this cream making your face lighter I would suggest using as a spot treatment instead of an all over face cream. :)

Made in Taiwan

My General Overview: So many of you have been wondering if this cream has made a difference and if I actually see a difference. Well, to be honest, yes. Ha. This stuff has definitely faded my acne scars and then some. If you want more product pictures and pictures of the cream in the jar refer to this post.

It's not some miracle product that works instantly or overnight. But when given the chance and used regularly over some time (I've been using it for about a month or a month and a half) it definitely gives you results.

The texture of it is not a cream so it's not something you can dip your finger into and scoop out. It's also not liquidy like a lotion at all. It has sort of a balm texture where you have to rub your fingers on top of it to pick some up. I've included a picture so you can see what I mean.

Since the texture isn't that of a normal cream or lotion the application and how much you need to apply is slightly different than that of other face creams. Anne over at yummiebitez.com did a GREAT tutorial of how she applies this pearl cream. If you apply too much, you may break out even more; if you apply too little, it may not work as effectively as it could. I find this a weakness with the cream. It definitely has a learning process to it. After you apply it, it looks like you're wearing a facial mask, but this isn't bothersome because it is after all a night cream/treatment.

Basically you have to apply a thin layer of it onto your face and leave it on overnight. You DO have to wash it off in the morning because it makes your skin sensitive to UV rays so keep in mind that you have to wear sunscreen while using this product.

So like I said, it has faded my acne scars significantly and they're still there yet significantly lighter. I'm guessing that if I keep using this face cream faithfully, they may be completely gone by Fall. That's how effective this face cream has been, and I swear it! I don't have any before & after pictures but you can take my word for it, also if you want proof take a look at Anne's blog because she does have some progress pictures up.

Anywho, besides fading acne scars it's actually helped my skin in other ways. It's minimized my breakouts and pretty much diminished any cystic pimples that I use to get. I don't breakout nearly as much, granted I will get a pimple or two every now and then, but it's not as bad and they really are teeny tiny pimples that go away in a day or two. LOL. I think that part of the secret behind this cream fading acne scars is the fact that it helps prevent more breakouts. You can't get more scars if you don't breakout! ;) Also, I use to get one or two cystic pimples on my forehead all of the time. I have no idea why, but I did. Ever since I started using this as my night cream, the cystic pimples have ceased all together. Yay! Ha. It also leaves your skin feeling baby soft in the morning and I really think it helps heal damaged skin. My skin can get sensitive sometimes, and sometimes I'll get a scab or two from my little sister unintentionally scratching my face (yeah, she's a rought little girl. LOL.) and I noticed that when I use this face cream, it speeds up the healing process! So two thumbs WAY up for all of the good things it's done for me.

There are a few things that I don't like about this cream. I don't like the fact that it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight because that means it can make your scars/hyperpigmentation worse if you don't wear sunscreen while using this. That's just a scary thought to me, but that's just personally speaking. I also noticed that my face is EVER SO SLIGHTLY lighter than my neck and chest area. It's not anything drastic where my face is a shade lighter than my neck or chest, but it's a tiny difference that I notice because I'm very observative like that. Haha.

PROS: It does fade acne scars if used faithfully and over a given amount of time. It also improves the skin's overall condition especially if you have damaged, irritated, or acne prone skin. It leaves skin feeling soft and helps minimize breakouts and cystic acne.

CONS: It makes skin sensitive to UV Rays and can make your face a tad lighter than your neck and/or the rest of your body. Also, I would say the fact that it's not so "user friendly" is a con. It's kinda bothersome that you have to be so conscience of how much you apply because your application can affect the outcome of it ALOT.

You'll Like This Product If:
- You get frequent breakouts and are looking for a night cream to help minimize that
- You're looking for a cream that fades hyperpigmentation and old acne scars
- You're looking for a cream that helps irritated, sensitive, damaged, or acne prone skin
- You want a night cream treatment that is affordable

You Won't Like This Product If:
- You are afraid of your face getting too light
- Your skin is sensitive enough to the sun as it is
- You prefer the consistency of a regular face cream and/or lotion
- You don't have problematic skin, therefore you don't need any special type of creams

Would I Repurchase This Product? YES! I've only given 2 products 5 stars in all of my reviews, this being one of the products. :) I'm more than satisified with how well it's worked for me and will continue to repurchase this. It works very well for me! It's definitely my go to #1 night face cream.

Overall, I really do see a difference in my skin when using this cream. I would recommend it to people who suffer from any skin problems and/or acne scars because this could possibly help. It's also really cheap depending on where you buy it so if it ends up not working out, you won't really feel so bad. :P LOL. I bought mine at Seafood City for only $2.79.

I hope you guys found this review helpful. I know many people have been waiting for this specific review and I'm sorry it took so long. I just wanted to give it a thorough testing before giving you guys a review... you know I like to give honest and thorough reviews. :P Hehe.

My MAC Enabler & MAC Hauls

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

So I'm actually getting into MAC and I have ONE person to blame for it... JACKIE.

Jackie said we look like "Now and Laters" Haha!

Haha. I'm kidding, I actually am enjoying collecting MAC items here and there, and some of their items I really do love. For instance I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Amplified Creme Lipsticks. It's such an awesome texture with good pigmentation. Those lipsticks are actually moisturizing and give this sexy wet lip look. LOVE IT, especially since I suffer from dry/chapped lips quite frequently... those lipsticks are PERFECT for me! :) My "Up The Amp" lipstick is an Amplified Creme.

I also am fond of their paint pots and blushes. :) Their eyeshadows are nice... but I don't really need any because as everyone knows I have pretty much every color eyeshadow, only it's in mineral pigment form. Hahaha! So there would really be no point in me buying alot of eyeshadows from them, but they do have good eyeshadows and I will snag up a color or two if it happens to catch my eye. :)

So anyway, I had to go pick up a colour forms brush set for Lena on Friday when I first got back from my cruise. BTW Lena love, I honestly don't mind getting stuff for you in the US. :) It's all love and if I can help someone out, I most definitely will. :) So I had to pick up a brush set for her, and initially I wasn't going to get a brush set because I already have so many brushes. LOL. But after seeing them and realizing I don't have any brushes from MAC I figured why not? Well, I do enjoy makeup and I would like a little bit of everything in my collection so it seemed like a fair investment. Ha. Actually, my bubs got it for me, so thanks babers! Ha. :)

So after picking up the brush set on Friday I was content. My 4 year anniversary with my babe was on Saturday (o7.19.o8) so we just vegetated at home all day and went to watch The Dark Knight on Saturday in IMAX in Ontario. Sunday we just did more vegetating and were basically enjoying the last day of our vacation because on Monday he had to go back to work and I had to start looking for a job and turning in apps. So Monday rolls around and I turn in a few apps online (I love the convience of the internet) and then I receive a text message from Jackie asking me if I wanted to go MAC shopping with her and her friend. I said yes. Haha! :) MAC shopping with Jackie is the BEST, no joke. LOL!

We went, did some perusing, and had lunch. I think I'm going to get a couple of Slimshines next time... I fell in love with the color "Missy" after the MUA swatched it on Jackie's hand. LOL.

Anywho, Jackie is REALLY sweet. She's the type of girl that goes out of her way to be nice. It's weird because it's hard to come by people like that now a days. She's really a doll though, honestly. :) I have a feeling we're going to become good friends. :D We just get along so well, well at least I think so. Hahaha! :) Okay enough rambling, on to the haul pics!

And here are swatches of the things I bought. :)

So what are my first impressions of everything I got?

Well the "Melba" blush is REALLY pretty. I REALLY like it. :)

The "Snob" lipstick looks horrible on me. Hahaha! I think I could make it work... but probably in winter when I'm lighter. I don't see it working out for me right now. Haha. The "Girl About Town" lipstick is really pretty! Think bright hot pink/fuschia lipstick... although it leans a tiny bit towards red... but I think it's because of my naturally pigmented lips. I think that if I wear "Snob" under it, the color will come out more true. The "High Tea" lipstick is really pretty! Initially I didn't like it... but it's actually really pretty. It's one of those lipsticks you can just slap on with any look and not have to worry about trying to make it work. :) I think this has alot to do with the fact that it's a Lustre so it's semi-sheer, so it's a nice neutral type lippie that's not hard to work with. Very pretty. :)

The "Newly Minted" eye shadow is a matte therefore the color payoff is really good... at least when I swatch it. I have to try it on my actual eyelids... and I plan on doing a look using it soon. :)

The #219 Pencil Brush works pretty good... but HONESTLY I still prefer my Urban Apothecary Crease Brush over it. Also I think the Essence of Beauty Crease Brush would make a suitable substitute should you not want to fork out the money for it. But my Urban Apothecary Crease Brush still wins hands down. LOL!

The Plushlash Mascara works really good BUT it's NOT waterproof. :( So since it's not waterproof it smudges on me like CRAZY especially in this heat and my lashes won't stay curled at all. :( *sigh* but IF it were waterproof it'd be a really good mascara. I've heard some people compare this mascara to Cover Girl's Lash Blast but I honestly prefer Cover Girl's Lash Blast because it does come in waterproof. As far as how they work... it's somewhat similar but not completely. I think Lash Blast gives a teensy bit more volume than Plushlahs but Plushlash gives a teensy bit more length than Lash Blast. Also, Lash Blast can get clumpy if you're not careful because the brush holds alot of product while Plushlash doesn't really get clumpy at all because the brush design is completely different from Lash Blast's. Overall, I don't think I'd buy the Plushlash but ONLY because it's not waterproof, if it were I'd probably like it better.

I haven't used my Colour Forms brushes yet but I will try them out. :)

So that's it! Here is my massive MAC haul. Okay I know to some MAC addicts out there it's not so massive but this is truly massive for me. Hahaha. So I hope you guys found this entry entertaining. I won't being buying anymore makeup AT ALL until I get a job. :P Hehe.

Oh by the way, I have a few reviews coming up. One on the Ly-Na Pearl Cream and the other on Gloves in a Bottle Shielding Lotion... so watch out for those too. :)

So that's it really. And before any of you can say anything; yes... my MAC collection is growing and it's all Jackie's fault, I think she knows why! LOL! But hey, I'm not complaining. LOL!

BTW... I didn't get my paint pot back but ehh... whatevs. Ha. I have more than enough MAC items accumlated since then to make up for it. LOL. I'll just wait for "Painterly" to come back in stock and buy it then. :)

FOTN: Smokey Eyes & Bright Pink Lips AND I'm BACK! :)

Saturday, July 19, 2008

Hey everyone! :) I just got back from my cruise on Friday and it was awesome. I had a great time and it was SO relaxing and LOTS of fun. I was kinda sad about leaving the ship when it was time to come back home. LOLOL.

Anywho, I'm just milking this little vacation for what it's worth and will resume posting normally on Monday AND looking for a job. :) Hehe.

For the meanwhile, here is an FOTN I did one of the nights on the cruise, we went clubbing that night. Ha. :) Mind you, I was VERY buzzed the whole day and I was buzzed when I put on my makeup this night (and most of the other nights. hahahaha)... so excuse the sloppiness. The application was rushed and meh. LOL. :) But honestly, I think I did a pretty good job as far as application goes, taking into consideration I was buzzed. LOLOL! Enjoy! :D

Melody's Makeup Outlet Haul & Update On Swaplift

Sunday, July 13, 2008

So since I was feeling really down and out this morning, I asked the boyfriend if we could stop by Melody's Makeup Outlet. Thanks to Precious for giving me the heads up about this store, I became curious and figured it was worth a look see. :) My boyfriend said yes, he'd go with me, because he felt bad for me... and told me that the girl I was suppose to swap with was a "b!*%#" and that "karma will get her." LOL.

So we stopped by and it's a small shop that's kinda hidden, so we passed it up the first time around. LOL. But we found it and it was cute. It doesn't have that HUGE commercialized chain store feeling to it, it has a sort of small time boutique feel to it, but I liked it. :) They have items from various brands there, and their selection isn't massive but they do have some things worth taking a look at and the prices are awesome. :)

Here's a video about the store that shows you pictures of how the store looks inside and provides information about the store. :) Thanks Precious for giving me the link to the video! :D

There were only two people working in the shop which is understandable because the shop isn't too big to begin with. As I said, it's cozy and comfy, not huge and commercialized. Both of the people there were extremely nice and helpful. :) I think the guy is the owner of the shop because he asked me how I found out about their little shop. He was nice and he didn't charge me (more like my boyfriend) tax on the two blushes and gave us a 10% discount! :) Very cool.

Oh, by the way... my boyfriend endorsed this haul because he wanted to make me feel better about my lost paint pot. I tell you, I have a very sweet boyfriend. :) But I treated him to lunch, so we're about even... LOL. Kidding.

Anyway, I picked up three MAC items. I didn't get a paint pot because they didn't have the color I wanted, so I just skipped on that. :P But I did get a few good things so yeah. Here are pictures. :)

Here is a flyer and business card that my boyfriend gave me in the store. It's kinda weird... he just randomly handed them to me, but I guess it actually ended up being a good thing. LOL. Thanks babe. LOL.

My MAC haul. :)

Check out those price tags. :) Hey man, believe it or not, the price differences made a signifcant DIFFERENCE in the end. I'll write more about that after the pictures.

How my haul looks after being taken out of the boxes

My two blushes. I've been lemming "Dollymix" for the longest so I definitely picked that up when I saw it. I picked up "Harmony" because it looks like it'd be a good contour color. Most of the brown blushes I come across are too dark, too orange, too shimmery, too red, etc... but this one definitely looks promising. :)

Pardon my anxiousness, I got lipstick on the rim of the tube. LOL! Anywho, this is a very pretty lipstick! It's not a subtle shade. So if you're looking for a subtle lipstick, I wouldn't suggest this color. But I personally LOVE it. Haha. :)

Swatches of everything I got.

A picture of how the lipstick looks on my lips. I didn't use any base or anything under this, ONLY my Rosebud Lip Salve.

So my haul came out to a total of $33.23, as soon as I got home, I was curious how much I saved versus if I went to a MAC store or counter. So I calculated how much the total would've been if I were to buy all three items for regular price with normal tax and everything. If I bought these three items for regular price with regular tax at MAC it would have costed me $54.12 versus the $33.23 I paid at Melody's. I saved $20.89. Now you can't beat that with a bat. Ha. :) Yay. I didn't buy any eyeshadows or pigments because I figured I'm not really wearing eyeshadow/pigments lately, so there really wasn't any point. LOL. :P PLUS, I have TONS of pigments and none of the colors I saw made me feel like I "NEEDED" it, I also pretty much have most all of the colors that they had, just in mineral pigment form and from a different brand. Hey man, a medium toned teal is a medium toned teal... I don't need several medium toned teals. LOL. They also had a couple of MAC brushes there but nothing that grabbed my attention. They carry a good number of products from other brands as well, it's not only MAC that they carry.

All in all, it was a very cool store. I liked it. :) If you live in so-cal and are curious about the store here's the info.

Melody's Makeup Outlet
11 South Second Street
Alhambra, 91801
(626) 281 - 7707

if you should go, let Rob (the owner) know that Christiana Divine sent you. :D

So as for my swaplifter I think I MAY have been able to retrieve my paint pot! Thanks to one of my commenters (Dianna) who told me about USPS holding her package for her and returning it to her, I contacted USPS and they told me that they DID have a service that did this. So I went to USPS today and filled out a form. The postal worker told me that if it's not delivered today I'll be more likely to get my package back because they're going to contact HER post office on Monday and tell them not to deliver the package and mail it back to MY post office. So I checked the Delivery Confirmation Status and it hasn't been delivered yet, so there's still a chance that I will get my paint pot back! Yay! Haha. :) *Crosses Fingers* let's hope this works in my favor. :) So thanks Dianna for letting me know!

So yeah, thank God today ended up being a better day than yesterday. LOL. :) Oh, and thanks to all of the wonderful ladies who commented in my cbox and on my entry yesterday about the swaplifter. :) You guys are sweet! :D Thanks again.

I guess a tutorial is in order for that look from yesterday huh? :) Thankfully, it's a simple look so it's definitely do-able as far as tutorial form goes. Ha. :D I'll do it when I get back from my cruise. :D Till I return... :)

RE.EDiT:
I HAD to add this picture in. So I treated my boyfriend to lunch at Johnny Rockets after stopping by Melody's, and here's a picture from there. :)

LOL. I got bored... so sue me. :) Okay it's really late and I should go to bed because I have to finish up packing tomorrow. LOL. I leave Monday!!! WOOOO! :D

Prepping for my CRUISE DEPARTURE & I'm Pretty Sure I Was Swaplifted

Saturday, July 12, 2008

So I've been busy prepping for my cruise. :) I leave Monday morning and come back Friday morning. It's my first cruise ever so i hope that i really have a great time. :D

Sooooo... it's been forever since I've done an FOTD and that's because this so-cal heat has made me unbelievably lazy as far as makeup application goes. LOL! :) So here's the MOST makeup that I've worn in a while. :P Haha. It's definitely nothing fancy smancy or anything like that... but I thought I'd list everything I used in this look JUST IN CASE someone wanted to know. Oh, and I don't have any close up pictures of the look, but know that I ONLY used mascara and eyeliner on my eyes... ZERO eyeshadow. LOL. See, told you I've been lazy. Haha.

My little weirdo (no, she's not my kid... she's my baby SISTER. LOL.)

Watching T.V. :)

My TWO weirdos. Haha.

What I Used
Face:
Meow Cosmetics Premiere Puss Primer in the Oily Formula [i LOVE this primer]
Buff'd Concealing Formula Foundation in "Buff"
Everyday Minerals Concealer in "Intensive Medium"

Cheeks:
Lumiere Veena Blush in "Earth" (contour in hollows of cheeks)
E.L.F. Healthy Glow Bronzer in "Sunkissed" (cheeks & cheek bones)

Eyes:
Physician's Formula Gentle Cream Concealer in "Yellow"

Covergirl Lash Blast Waterproof in "Blackest Black" (two coats on upper eyelashes)

Lips:
Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve

On to the bad news. I think I was swaplifted on Makeupalley. I'm almost CERTAIN I was swaplifted. Remember the extra paint pot in "Soft Ochre" I had, well, I swapped it with someone for a "Painterly" Paint Pot. Everything was cool and they did have one positive token (mind you I have ZERO positive tokens because I've never swapped on there) and they were active on the boards and had one product review. I figured, they were okay to swap with. So the day after I shipped out their paint pot (today) and told them about it, their account is deleted. GODDAMMIT! Are you serious? Great... that's just great. I just lost a BRAND NEW Paint Pot... to some swaplifter. GOD! You have no idea how crappy/infuriated I'm feeling right now. I'm mostly upset because it's almost like you trust someone to come through on their end, so when you get screwed over you feel even worse because you were HOPING this person was trustworthy. *sigh*

I've done swaps before but only with some beauty bloggers through here. :( This sucks. I can't believe I just lost a brand new paint pot AND I paid the shipping and delivery confirmation and crap for that person just so they could get a free paint pot. I shouldn't have swapped it. Well, the experience has DEFINITELY left a BAD taste in my mouth and I will NEVER swap on Makeupalley again. I don't think I'd like to risk it... but I'm just COMPLETELY bummed about it, you have NO idea. =*(

So yeah, that's it really. I only have one paint pot... and am basically out about $20 -$22. LAME. I can't believe that person is getting a brand new paint pot and I have nothing to show for it. Gah.

Anywho, I'll be finishing up packing for my cruise this weekend and what not. So I hope I feel better by the time we depart. Bah.

Grand Opening of Sephora in the Santa Anita Mall

Monday, July 7, 2008

So the Grand Opening of Sephora in the Santa Anita Mall was on July 3rd. I invited Miss J.Rose to go with me and she was sweet enough to come along. :)

I was sorta nervous because believe it or not I am an EXTREMELY shy person. LOL. So I was afraid I'd be quiet and shy and that she'd get bored. LOL. Luckily for me she isn't shy so she had no problem breaking the ice! haha. :) She's a very sweet, chill, and down to earth individual who is very friendly! :) I had a great time chillin' with you miss; we definitely have to do it again once I get a job. LOL.

Anywho, so we met up at Santa Anita Mall and she got there a little early like she said. LOL. I spotted her car and parked beside her and called her... she was like, "Where are you?" and I said, "Uhh... I think I'm right beside you?" LOL! I wasn't sure which is why I said THINK. LOL. But I was right. So we sat in her car waiting for the mall to open and conversated a bit. We went into the mall around 10 and there was already a line! I didn't know that they opened the doors a little bit earlier! LOL.

So we got in line and I had no idea they were giving out gift cards. I've never been to a Grand Opening before so please forgive me if I'm completely surprised by this. LOL. So we got gift cards and that was pretty cool! I was honestly pretty stoked about that. LOL. Dude, freeeeee money! Hahaha.

So Jackie and I continued perusing through Sephora. She picked up the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and some Dry Spray On Shampoo. I ORIGINALLY wanted to pick up the Shiseido Eyelash Curler but they didn't have any in stock at the store! How are you going to open up a Sephora and NOT have the Shiseido Curler?! LOL. So I just got the Regular Shu Uemera Curler! I had NO idea how much credit was on our giftcards and Jackie ended up paying for her stuff before me, and she got $10.00 on her card. I was wondering how much was on my card after that. LOL. Luckily I got $10.00 on my card too, so that was cool. I got a Shu Uemera Curler for ten dollars and some change, now you can't beat that with a bat. LOL. :) Oh yeah, and since I'm a Beauty Insider and I printed out the coupon, I got a free makeup bag so that was cool.

After that we continued perusing the mall. Jackie and I stopped by Pac Sun and then Charlotte Russe. Charlotte Russe was having a sale! SCORE! Haha. :)

Jackie got a couple of tops for about 6 bucks total, which is a complete steal if you ask me. I got a Gold and Black Cropped Zip Up Hoodie, a Flowy Teal and White V-Neck/V-Back Dress, and a Black Cadet Cap. The dress and hoodie were on sale for only $6.99 which wasn't bad... actually my hat cost the most. LOL. My hat was $8.99 I believe. :P

After that Jackie and I went to have lunch in the food court. We got some Japanese food which was rather disappointing for me. I normally LOVE Japanese food but their food was ehh. Then again, it is Japanese FAST FOOD so I shouldn't be surprised. LOL. But the good conversation made up for the crappy food. I should have just gotten Chicken Roasters though man! LOL. :)

After that Jackie and I did some more chatting and a little more window shopping and then we left because she had to go to work. :) See, I didn't spend that much at all! I told you, when I do my shopping in person, it's easy for me to limit it... it's the online shopping that kills me. I HAVE NO IDEA why I'm like that, but I am. LOL.

All in all it was a fun day and she was a real doll. It was a true pleasure meeting her and I look forward to our future adventures together. LOL. ;)

Imee girl, Jackie and I are still holding you to chillin' with us when you get back from Pinas! :)

MAC Friends & Family Haul AND Comparison Between MAC Paint Pots & Indelible Creme Eyeshadows

Sunday, July 6, 2008

So I ended up taking advantage of MAC's Friends and Family Sale that took place a week or two ago. :) There was ONE MAC product that I was DYING to try because it's the only MAC product of interest to me that I can't find ANY dupe for; their paint pots! :)

Their paint pots always get such rave reviews and I figured what better time to take advantage of it than during their sale. :) I didn't go to the store, I just placed my order online during the Friends & Family Sale on the website. :) So here's what I got...

I got two MAC Paint Pots

Both in the color Soft Ochre. After already placing my order, I realized I should have gotten one in "Soft Ochre" and the other in "Painterly". LOL!

A picture of the paint pot open.

Here's a swatch of the paint pot

I've had the Indelible Creme Eyeshadow for quite some time, and now that I own the MAC Paint Pot and have been using it for a while, I feel that I can do an accurate comparison between the two. :)

Size Differences: The Indelible Creme Eyeshadow's net weight is 3 grams per jar, whereas the MAC Paint Pot's net weight is 5 grams per jar! I took a comparative picture of the jars side by side so that you can see the difference.

Size comparative picture between the Indelible Creme Eyeshadow (on the left) and a MAC Paint Pot (on the right)

Price Differences: The Indelible Creme Eyeshadows price range is anywhere from $7.00 - $14.00 depending on which website you purchase it from. jWCosmetics.com sells these for the best price if you calculate shipping prices and everything together. I believe MAD Minerals sells them at a slightly lower price BUT their shipping is much higher and if you create ghost carts on both websites, you'll end up seeing that jW Cosmetics still gives you a better price collectively. :)

Anywho, if you buy one Indelible Creme Eyeshadow on the jW Cosmetics website, shipping, tax and everything will roughly cost about $10.87 total, per jar. The MAC Paint Pots cost $16.50 per jar, plus tax... so your total per paint pot will come out to about $17.86 for one paint pot if you buy it in store. I'm not sure how much it would cost to buy the MAC Paint Pots online with shipping because I wouldn't pay for shipping, I'd simply stop by any Macy's, Nordstrom's, or MAC store to pick up a paintpot, since it's easily available in those locations.

Anywho, if you do the math you're paying $3.62 per gram of product when you purchase the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows from any of the online retailers, and this is using the jW Cosmetics prices, it would cost MORE if you were to purchase the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows from the more expensive websites! With the MAC Paint Pots you're paying $3.57 per gram of product when you purchase the MAC Paint Pots in store. As you can see, the better value is actually with the MAC Paint Pots because you pay less per gram of product with the MAC Paint Pots versus the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows.

Texture Differences: Although they're both described to have creamy consistencies I noticed a difference the INSTANCE I first tried MAC's Paint Pot.

The Indelible Creme Eyeshadow is just that, a creamy consistency that spreads on very creamy and smoothly. The consistency of it is EXTREMELY creamy and soft. It's spreads across your lids like butter and it glides as you spread it.

The MAC Paint Pots have a drier texture in comparison to the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows and are definitely not as creamy. MAC Paint Pots have a slightly drier texture and don't apply as creamily or softly as the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows. It's easy to spread but not as easy the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows, I also noticed that the MAC Paint Pots dry faster than the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows.

Although it sounds like the Indelible Creme Eyeshadow has the upper hand in this battle; you're wrong. Which of the two make the best secondary base (I ALWAYS use TWO bases)? The MAC Paint Pots.

My guess is that since the MAC Paint Pots have a drier consistency, they prevent creasing and fading better. The Indelible Creme Eyeshadows are almost TOO creamy and when I tried using it as a base, it creased on me rather quickly. MAC Paint Pots definitely win over the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows as far as standing up as an eyeshadow base.

I think you might prefer the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows if you have DRY lids. If you have dry lids I imagine the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows would probably work better for you and you'd probably find the MAC Paint Pots too dry as a base. If you have oily lids like myself, I think you would prefer the MAC Paint Pots because it's better at controlling the oilies on your eyelids and prevents those oils from wreaking havoc on your eyeshadow. Please note that I haven't tried using the paint pots as a base by itself, but I may try this one day... to be honest I don't think the Paint Pot by itself will work though because I have killer lids as far as oilies go. LOL.

Would I Repurchase? I WOULD repurchase the MAC Paint Pots because it's a better value and it's a better base for my oily eyelids. I WOULD NOT repurchasase the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows because they're too creamy to keep my shadows from creasing or fading.

Anyone who reads this blog normally also knows that I'm not a MAC Addict by any means, so I don't prefer the Paint Pots because I have biases towards any brand other than MAC. The MAC Paint Pots honestly outperformed the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows as far as lasting power went and I personally found that I prefer the MAC Paint Pots as bases.

NOTE: that the Indelible Creme Eyeshadows are NOT dupes of the MAC Paint Pots because the two products are not similar at all, at least from what I've experienced.

Last but not least Swatches of the two products! I believe the Indelible Creme Eyeshadow in "Bare Necessity" is a dupe of MAC's Paint Pot in "Painterly" as far as colors go, but don't quote me on that because unfortunately I don't have "Painterly". LOL!

I hope you guys found this review/comparison helpful. If you guys like I can compare the MAC Paint Pots to the L'Oreal HiP Paints in the future, but only if you guys would find it helpful. :) If you guys want, I will do an eyeshadow base experiment post using these two bases on either eye, but only if someone says they want it. :)
